Rainie Yang - Career Journey

Yang Cheng Lin is a cute and energic Taiwan actress who started her entertainment career when she was 14, featuring in commercials in Hong Kong.

When Cheng Lin was 15, she went for a BMG audition in Taiwan and was selected to form a girls group “4 In Love.” It was during that time that Cheng Lin got her name ‘Rainie’ that was used ever since then. The other 3 members were named Sunnie, Windy and Cloudy. But she was originally called Lily in industry.

Rainie Yang stood out as the most popular girl from 4 In Love after starring as Xiao-You in 2001 popular Taiwan TV mini-series “Meteor Garden.”

Her group band “4 In Love” was disbanded in 2002 due to personal issues after release 2 albums which quite popular in Taiwan. But only Rainie decided continuing her prospering and bright entertainment career back then.

Rainie’s decision proved wise as her popularity continued to grow with her leading performance in 2002 superhit Taiwan TV drama “The Love Book.”
Then in 2002 that Rainie also started hosting in TV Shows, including as co-host for the popular entertainment show in Taiwan, “Guess, Guess, Guess” with Jacky Wu.
In 2005 another’s Rainie breakthrough, she become superstar with her acting in highly rated Taiwan drama, “Devil Beside You” alongside heartthrob Mike He Jun Xiang brought her song Ai Mei absolute success.


And hold the record as the first Chinese newcomer to achieve platinum status, selling 1.5 million copies in South-East Asia with her album My Intuition Ai Mei.

In 2006 she also released her album, Meeting Love, which also sold very well.
In September 2007 she released My Other Self (otherwise known as Anywhere Door) features “Que Yang” and “Wan Mei Bi Li” both from her drama Why Why Love, which also coupled with Mike He Jun Xiang (Devil Beside You) and Kingone Wang. She also co-starred in the arthouse and lesbian related film Spide Lilies alongside Isabella Leong to stand up as a serious actress.

In January 2008, Rainie recorded her last show “Guess Guess Guess” due to her busy schedule and focus in her music career.

In April 2008, Rainie fell from between the 3rd stairs heavily while she’s filming the idol drama The Bad Campus Belle in Sanchih. After an X-ray examination, doctors diagnosed Yang’s injury as a spinal contusion. After leaving the hospital, producer Angie Chai took Yang to a Chinese massage therapist.
